BOOK REVIEW | POWER DUELS | KATIE WRIGHT

Imagine stumbling upon a bracelet in a dusty old cave, only to find out it gives you the power to control minds. Sounds like a dream, right? But what if that power came with a responsibility so huge it could change the world—or destroy it? That’s the wild ride Kiara is on in Power Duels - The Mind, and trust me, it’s one journey you won’t want to miss.

So here’s the deal: Kiara is your everyday quirky woman from Seattle, just trying to live her life, when she suddenly activates this ancient bracelet she finds in a cave near Jerusalem. Boom! She’s thrust into a whirlwind of mind-blowing psychic powers, ancient secrets, and a mission that’s way bigger than she ever imagined. Alongside her trusty friends, David and Ben, Kiara dives into a world where her abilities could either save the day or bring everything crashing down. It’s like Indiana Jones meets X-Men, with a dash of self-discovery that will hit you right in the feels.

Let’s talk about Katie Wright for a sec. She’s not just another debut author trying her hand at fantasy—Katie’s got a background in Marketing and E-Business, which she uses to add a sharp, modern edge to her storytelling. This is her first published novel, but you can tell she’s been crafting stories in her mind for years. She’s got this knack for blending the everyday with the extraordinary, making her characters feel real even when they’re dealing with the kind of stuff most of us only dream about.

What really grabbed me about this book is how Katie manages to mix heart-pounding action with deep, emotional connections. You’re not just reading about epic battles and psychic showdowns—you’re feeling Kiara’s inner struggle, her doubts, and her fears. The writing flows like a movie, and I couldn’t help but think, “Why isn’t this on the big screen yet?” It’s rare to find a book that’s both a thrill ride and a deep dive into what it means to be human, but this one nails it.

Kiara’s not just some superhero-in-the-making; she’s a woman trying to figure out who she is in a world that’s suddenly way more complicated than she ever imagined. Her journey isn’t just about mastering these insane powers—it’s about realizing that true strength comes from within, and sometimes, the most powerful thing you can do is lean on your friends. David and Ben aren’t just sidekicks; they’re her anchors, reminding her (and us) that we don’t have to face our battles alone.

There’s this moment where Kiara, overwhelmed by the chaos her powers have caused, has to confront the real possibility that she’s more of a threat than a savior. It’s raw, it’s real, and it’s a reminder that even when we’re given extraordinary abilities, it’s our choices that define us. This scene had me reflecting on how easy it is to get lost in what we think we should be, instead of just being ourselves.

Katie’s greatest strength is her ability to create a world that feels lived-in, with characters who stay with you long after you’ve closed the book. If I had to nitpick, I’d say that some parts of the story felt a bit rushed, like I wanted to linger in certain moments a bit longer. But honestly, that just means I didn’t want the story to end.

This book took me on a journey that was as much about self-discovery as it was about mind control and epic battles. What resonated with me the most was how the story explored the idea that real power isn't just about having extraordinary abilities—it's about understanding who you are and finding balance within yourself. The challenges Kiara faces reminded me that true strength comes not just from what we can do, but from how we choose to grow and evolve through our experiences.

What did you think? If you were in Kiara’s shoes, would you embrace the power or run from it? Let’s talk about it—drop your thoughts in the comments!
