Creative Non Fiction 5 | Social Media Vs. Humanity! | Maniska Das

Social media is way faster than we can ever think or imagine. It transfers and translates every bit within a blink of an eye.

I remember there was a time when we used to have a landline and the calls were also costly, but those were the only means of transferring a message along with letters. As time passed we humanized to new features like emails, SMS, and various social media platforms using computers, laptops and mobiles.

Social media was always a platform to enhance communication and connectivity but nowadays there is a question arises, where is humanity? The reason of my claim is that, as we are getting older by generation our brains are also evolving to adapt new features and become wider. But in social media, I get to see a new variety of content on a day-to-day basis to which there are certain positive numbers of people responding well in between, but more negative comments are influencing badly, not only to the owners but viewers too. With new advancements we expect people to make it efficient in a human way but rather than that people are responding in a completely opposite way.

Social media's grip on humanity becomes more tight daily. We're sacrificing our time and brains for curated online personas. Real-life relationships suffer as we compare our lives to edited highlights and reels. Mental health declines through likes and followers. Empathy diminishes, replaced by trolls and bullying. We're losing ourselves in the virtual world, neglecting the beauty of HUMANITY.

I think back to that era where we were able to meet person to person without any filter, where we were present in the moment without the beeping of notifications, and where we shared actual thoughts and emotions without emojis. But that was an Era before getting trapped in this social media rat trap and now this is the era where everyone is trapped inside the rat trap and not even getting the key to unlock it and let them free. I am not sure when exactly these all started.  When did we start to get confused between online and offline persons? When we start to believe that our social media profiles added sum total of our existence? And henceforth we sacrificed our humanity over the social world.

Let's break free from the screens and rediscover ourselves as humans! At least if we can't say anything positive about anyone then stop promoting the negative also. You don't know from where and how the negative cosmic energy will affect you also. Social media amplifies humanity's best and worst, blurring the line between connection and comparison. Can we regain the human touch in a digital era? The answer lies in conscious consumption, connections, and remembering the vibrant world that exists beyond the screen.

We have lost the art of conversation in between the comments and stickers. We are here losing our sense of community and our ability to run our minds. I know it won't be easy but it's not impossible either. Let's get free from this trap and step back to that era when we were actual humans, not created Avtar. Shall we start a move towards a re-humanistic approach?

"Social media connects us, but Humanity completes this connection!"
