BOOK REVIEW | THE BOVINE REDEMPTION | JAGDISH JOGHEE

If I were to review the book in just 3 words, they would be captivating and philosophical.

The plot is a superb mix of Indian traditions, modern ethics, business magnets and greed. The author I am sure has taken a great deal of travel for the research of the subject and must have met a lot of people. The corporate and greed angle just fits in naturally and the author plays it well. The story is all about a simple village girl who sees a perfect life in front of her. But destiny has stored something different for her. With some events, her life goes topsy turvy and it gets a completely different meaning. Her fight to get back her and her family's pride is portrayed in the novel.

The novel is a philosophical one too. We find many times the author shares valuable philosophical teachings from his characters which are 100% believable. This novel makes the reader think about things like how you decide what is “good” and “bad”, what “success” means, what your “purpose” in life is etc.

One thing I certainly can't miss mentioning is the father character from the novel. This character by far is my favourite from the novel. The father throughout provides reasonable, firm guidance, without arbitrarily imposing his will, and stands by all the decisions his daughters take. The novel shows us that having a good relationship with her father not only shapes a girl’s childhood experience but also influences her behaviour towards other men later in life. I on a personal note would want to be like the father in the novel.

On the endnote, I will say that this is a book which has put a mark on me and this has turned out to be a really good read. The author has complete control of his story and his style. Looking forward to reading more of him.
