Sameer Gudhate presents the Book Review of 75 Innovations by India and Indians by Captain Manmeet Singh

Every once in a while, a book comes along that not only informs but ignites a spark of pride and motivation within you. 75 Innovations by India and Indians by Captain Manmeet Singh is one such book. Written by a staunch patriot and accomplished author from the Merchant Navy, the book celebrates India's remarkable contributions to the world of innovation. On the 75th anniversary of India’s Republic Day, it feels like a perfect tribute to the genius and creativity of our nation.

The book takes readers on an awe-inspiring journey through India's past and present, uncovering 75 innovations that have shaped our society and enriched global knowledge. From ancient breakthroughs to contemporary marvels, Captain Singh highlights both well-known and obscure achievements. Whether it's the invention of USB technology, Pentium processors, or revolutionary payment systems like UPI, the book is a testament to the brilliance of Indian minds. Each innovation is presented with enough context and detail to leave you amazed and proud of what India has accomplished.

Captain Singh’s writing style is straightforward yet engaging. He strikes a fine balance between being educational and inspirational, making the book accessible to readers of all ages. The narratives are sprinkled with anecdotes and lesser-known facts, adding a layer of intrigue that keeps you turning pages. The language is simple yet impactful, and Singh’s admiration for India’s innovators shines through in every line.

While the book isn’t about fictional characters, the “protagonists” are the inventors and their groundbreaking ideas. What stands out is how the author brings these innovations to life, making them relatable and inspiring. By sharing stories of determination and ingenuity, the book reminds readers that extraordinary accomplishments often come from ordinary people.

The book is well-organized, with each innovation presented as a standalone chapter. This structure allows readers to explore the stories at their own pace. The progression from historical innovations to modern-day technological marvels gives the narrative a sense of continuity and growth. The pacing is excellent, never overwhelming the reader with too much information at once.

At its heart, 75 Innovations by India and Indians is a celebration of creativity, perseverance, and national pride. It emphasizes the importance of recognizing and honouring our roots while inspiring the next generation to push boundaries. The book also serves as a gentle reminder that innovation isn’t limited by geography—it’s a universal human endeavour, and India has been a significant contributor.

This book stirred a deep sense of pride and curiosity within me. As I read through the stories, I found myself marvelling at the ingenuity of our people and the sheer determination behind each achievement. What truly moved me was how the book inspired not just me but my son. He’s already dreaming up his own innovations, thanks to the stories he’s read.

The book’s greatest strength lies in its ability to inspire and educate simultaneously. The stories are well-researched and presented in a way that’s easy to grasp. The diversity of innovations—from ancient Ayurveda to cutting-edge technology—makes it a comprehensive celebration of India’s contributions.

If there’s one area where the book could improve, it would be to include more visuals or diagrams to complement the text. Some technical innovations might have been easier to grasp with visual aids. However, this is a minor nitpick in an otherwise stellar book.

I can’t recommend this book enough! As someone who enjoys learning about history and innovation, it ticked all the right boxes for me. But more importantly, seeing how it impacted my daughter—fuelling her curiosity and ambition—makes it a truly special read for our family.

75 Innovations by India and Indians is a must-read for anyone who wants to feel inspired, proud, and deeply connected to the achievements of our nation. Whether you’re a parent looking to motivate your kids or someone seeking a reminder of India’s greatness, this book is for you. Captain Manmeet Singh has crafted a work that will leave readers brimming with pride and hope for the future.
