Sameer Gudhate presents the Book Review of Esa - A Tale of Strength by Ekta Roopchand

Let me start by saying this: if you’ve ever doubted your ability to rise above life’s challenges, Esa - A Tale of Strength is a book you need to read. Ekta Roopchand’s debut novel isn’t just a story—it’s an emotional experience. While I hadn’t heard of the author before, her words left a mark that’s hard to shake.

This is Esa’s journey, and what a journey it is! The book takes us through her life as she transforms from a timid girl to a woman who refuses to let her struggles define her. Along the way, we see her navigate love, loss, and societal pressures, and yet she comes out stronger, bolder, and more sure of herself. What sets this book apart is its ability to make you root for Esa—she’s the kind of character who feels real, like someone you’d know (or want to know).

Ekta’s writing is simple, and that’s what makes it so powerful. She doesn’t rely on flowery language or unnecessary complexity to tell her story. Instead, her words feel like a conversation, as if she’s sitting across from you, sharing Esa’s life over coffee. There’s a rawness in her descriptions, and the emotions come through in such a way that you’ll probably need a tissue or two.

Esa is the star here, no question. She’s not perfect, and that’s what makes her so relatable. You’ll see her stumble, cry, and doubt herself, but you’ll also see her grow, love, and find her strength. The supporting characters add layers to the story, from those who push her down to the ones who help her rise. It’s these relationships that give the book its heart.

The story flows beautifully—it’s easy to follow but keeps you engaged from start to finish. There aren’t any wild plot twists, but that’s not the point. The beauty lies in its steady, heartfelt storytelling. It’s the kind of book you’ll want to savor, not rush through.

This book is about more than just Esa; it’s about all of us who’ve faced setbacks and found a way to keep going. The themes of resilience, self-belief, and love (for yourself and others) hit hard. It’s empowering, especially for women, but honestly, anyone can take away something meaningful from this story.

I wasn’t ready for how much this book would make me feel. There were moments that made my chest tighten and others that left me smiling like an idiot. It’s not just a story—it’s a reminder of what it means to fight for yourself.

The relatability of Esa’s character is the book’s biggest strength. Add to that Ekta’s honest, heartfelt writing, and you have a story that sticks with you long after you’ve turned the last page.

If I had to nitpick, I’d say some of the supporting characters could’ve been fleshed out more. A few parts of the story leaned on familiar tropes, but it’s nothing that takes away from the overall impact.

I loved this book. As someone who’s all about stories of growth and resilience, Esa - A Tale of Strength hit all the right notes. It’s not just a book you read; it’s one you feel.

If you’re looking for a story that inspires, empowers, and maybe even makes you cry a little, give this one a shot. Ekta Roopchand is a writer to watch, and I can’t wait to see what she does next.
