When I first held Wisdom Tales from Gita for Children by Deepak Bharwani, I was instantly reminded of my childhood nights spent listening to my grandmother’s stories. Those tales were simple but powerful—filled with lessons that quietly shaped who I became. This book feels like a beautiful continuation of that tradition, a way to bring the wisdom of the Bhagavad Gita to life for today’s children in a language they can truly enjoy.

Deepak Bharwani, a management postgraduate from the University of Mumbai, isn’t just an author; he’s a teacher at heart. From mentoring leaders in corporate houses to co-founding a school dedicated to instilling cultural values in children, his work has always revolved around learning and growth. And now, with this book, he’s managed to blend his love for teaching, culture, and storytelling into something truly special.

The book follows Nara and his playful friends as they wander through the magical forest of Lalavan. At first glance, it’s an exciting adventure full of laughter and fun. But as each story unfolds, it gently reveals deeper lessons inspired by the Gita—lessons about courage, kindness, patience, and staying true to one’s duty.

What sets this book apart is how seamlessly these values are woven into the narrative. There’s no preaching here—only engaging stories that feel natural, relatable, and wonderfully meaningful.

Deepak’s writing is warm, clear, and conversational—perfect for young readers. He takes complex philosophical ideas and translates them into playful narratives that children can understand without losing their depth. The prose is simple enough for a child to read alone, yet rich enough that parents will enjoy reading it aloud during bedtime.

One of my favourite aspects is how the language carries a sense of curiosity. It never feels heavy; instead, it invites children to think, question, and wonder.

The characters in this book are more than just names on a page—they feel alive. Nara, with his mix of curiosity and courage, is a perfect guide for children. The lovable animal characters, like Kapa the mischievous monkey, bring humour and warmth to every chapter. Each character carries a distinct personality, making the stories both entertaining and memorable.

With 20 short stories, the pacing of the book is spot-on. Each tale is self-contained but contributes to a larger, meaningful experience. The illustrations sprinkled throughout only enhance this, keeping children engaged while also reinforcing the messages.

At its heart, this book isn’t just about the Gita—it’s about life. It explores values like selflessness, discipline, and humility, all while encouraging children to see the beauty of our cultural roots. These stories don’t just teach—they plant seeds of wisdom that children will carry as they grow.

There were moments when I caught myself smiling, not just because of the delightful storytelling but because of the quiet wisdom behind it. It’s a rare book that entertains children while also prompting parents to reflect.

The greatest strength of this book is its ability to take the profound teachings of the Bhagavad Gita and present them in a way that feels effortless and natural. Deepak Bharwani simplifies complex wisdom without ever losing its depth, making it accessible not only for children but also for parents who may be revisiting these values themselves. It’s this balance—between simplicity and substance—that truly makes the book shine.

If I had to mention a weakness, it would be the limited number of illustrations. A few more vibrant visuals could have made the reading experience even richer for young minds. That said, the strength of the storytelling more than makes up for it, keeping readers hooked from the first page to the last.

Reading this with my daughter turned into more than just story time—it became a bonding experience filled with questions, laughter, and meaningful conversations. And that’s what makes this book truly special.

If you’re looking for a way to introduce your child to timeless values in a playful, engaging way, Wisdom Tales from Gita for Children is a must-read. It’s not just a book; it’s a treasure chest of stories that both kids and adults will cherish.
