The strength and resilience of women in the face of adversity is a blooming theme that blossoms in contemporary Indian literature. Indian authors have crafted characters that bear the brunt of discriminatory practices based on gender, caste, religion, domestic violence, and societal norms. These indomitable women refuse to be wilted by the oppressive forces, and instead, rise up with a tenacity that is truly awe-inspiring. With their unyielding spirit, these women overcome the hurdles that seek to hinder their growth and emerge as powerful and inspiring beings, shining like radiant flowers amidst a field of thorns.
Wonder Womaniya, penned by Dr Sohil Makwana, blooms as a tale of a woman named Ambika, whose reputation as a witty and fierce being precedes her. However, fate twists in a peculiar way, as she succumbs to the charms of love and loses her strength. Ambika's life takes an unforeseen turn when she enters wedlock with Amar and faces the harsh realities of gender and caste-based discrimination, all while grappling with infertility. Despite these trials, Ambika perseveres and tries to adjust to her new life, until the bitter end when Amar's frustration leads him to abandon her. Subsequently, Ambika, who was once lively and sprightly, withers into a pale, sombre figure, attempting to gather the pieces of her life. However, a miraculous event transforms her world, and she emerges as the "Woman of the Decade." Her journey is a testament to the power of a single cause that ignites a significant change, rescuing countless lives. In essence, Wonder Womaniya is a flower that celebrates the resilience and strength of the human spirit, particularly that of women, who despite facing adversity, emerge victorious, and bloom into an inspiration for generations to come.
The author's deft hand at sketching out the characters and maintaining a fast-paced yet intense narrative is commendable, as it creates a beautiful tapestry of emotions filled with laughter and love. Ambika's character, in particular, is an inspiring one, as she faces every challenge with a delicate balance of grace and grit. Although the story begins at a slower pace, it picks up momentum after a few chapters, effectively engaging readers with Ambika's situation and emotions, thus making it effortless to empathize with her struggles. The author strikes a perfect balance between light and heavy moments, seamlessly weaving them into the narrative, and keeping the readers engrossed throughout. The second half of the book brings about a significant leap, executed brilliantly, which serves as an inspiration and solution for many young girls. However, in my personal opinion, the final part seems slightly exaggerated and could have been shorter.
Wonder Womaniya is a captivating and uplifting tale of the tenacity, aspiration, and prowess of women. It's a literary masterpiece that should not be missed by those seeking an emotionally satisfying read, brimming with hope and encouragement. This book encapsulates the narrative of every young lady and woman striving to overcome the challenges posed by societal expectations, ultimately guiding them towards self-growth and discovery. It's a literary treasure trove that inspires readers to blaze their paths in life, despite the adversities and hurdles along the way.
