BOOK REVIEWS | ANTONY AND CLEOPATRA | WILLIAM SHAKESPEARE

Antony and Cleopatra is the definitive tragedy of passion, and in it, the ironic and heroic themes, the day world of history and the night world of passion, expand into natural forces of cosmological proportions.

Among William Shakespeare’s great tragedies, Antony and Cleopatra is the anomaly.

Written approximately around 1606-07, Antony And Cleopatra by William Shakespeare is a love tragedy woven around political vendetta, voluptuous desire and solemn death. Antony, influenced by Cleopatra’s charm, hardly pays any heed to his duty. Though their love is sheer, error of judgment and extravagant luxury sent them to doom. The hero Mark Antony is portrayed as a man of brilliant valiance and exceptional Martial prowess while the heroine or the Egyptian queen Cleopatra comes as highly attractive. awe-inspiring enchantress with fathomless coquetry. Making love to each other, amorous pleasure overpower their conscience which led them to catastrophe and tragedy comes crashing down their life.
